1 sheet 37 x 45 cm, black pen-and-ink chalk lithograph, stencil-colored in 6 colors
From the WDN collection
"The toy models designed by the lithographer Schöpel are among the most charming items of this genre. They are not modern. Even at the time of their creation they must have appeared idyllic, at least compared with those made by Pellerin." (Siegrid Metken). Indeed the model sheets are remarkable for their precise and detailed graphics. Also, the staffage figures are unusually numerous and varied in form and appearance.

Gärtnerhaus, Nr. 65 [gardener's house]

The publisher does not say precisely after what building this model was designed. They just call it "the type of Americam skyscraper that rises up to 27 stories". However, the model is intriguingly similar to the "Daily News Building" (2nd Avenue/E 42nd Street) in New York that was completed in 1930.

Modellier-Carton Türkische Moschee, Nr. 40 [Turkish mosque]
Eduard Stange, Fabrik von Goldborten, Luxuspapier und Bilderbogen, Berlin about 1865
1 sheet 36 x 42,3 cm, pen-and-ink chalk lithograph, stencil-colored
From the collection of the Deutsches Buch- und Schriftmuseum of the Deutsche Nationalbibliothek, D-Leipzig (S 1990/050)
The model presents the typus of a mosque with a courtyard: entrance area, courtyard, prayer hall and minaret. However, the courtyard is only represented as the "front of the building", the prayer hall as its "back". Nevertheless the model gives a pretty good impression of what a muslim house of prayer may look like. Palm trees and staffage figures complete the exotic scene.
