Purpose and activities of the AGK

The object of our association is to promote and to actively conduct research of the cultural and economic aspects of card modeling in history and present. We pursue this object through the activities names below.

  • Issuing an annual publication Zur Geschichte des Kartonmodellbaus. These booklets contain articles about publishers and their portfolio, model engineers and their works and other topics of interest concerning card modeling. The content of the articles is investigated meticulously and checked against card model prints and primary sources to make sure that it reflects the current state of research. The language is German, but all articles have an English summary and images are captioned in German and English throughout. Each issue comes with a reproduction print of a historical model sheet with explanations about the sheet and its background.
  • Creating and maintaining a database of all card models ever published, worldwide. The object is to provide, over a time of some years, an overview of the relevant data about all card models ever printed. We invite you to help us with this task. Only AGK members have access to all levels of detail, but the search function and  the main data like Title, publisher, year of publication and order/reference number are available to the general public.
  • Collecting publishers' catalogues and adapting the information into our catalogue database. This serves to date card model sheets and to place them in a socio-historical context.
  • Participating in certain public fairs, with AGK members actively running exhibition booths:
    • modell-hobby-spiel (Leipzig), see the report about the 2008 participation as an example: Messe 2008
    • Intermodellbau (Dortmund)
    • Modellbau (Bremen)
    • Modellbau Bodensee (Friedrichshafen)
  • Active participation as exhibitors and lecturers at the annual "Internationalen Kartonmodellbau-Treffen" (international meeting of card modelers) at Bremerhaven, see the report about the 20th meeting in 2008.
  • Co-organizing the exhibition "Hubert Siegmund - Meister des Kartons" (Hubert Siegmund, master of cardboard, 2005 Esslingen and Halle), among other things issue of a companion book and of an unpublished model sheet by Hubert Siegmund (for additional information see publications of the AGK).
